Retro-fitting a House to Net Zero

How to Retrofit a House to Net Zero

by Emily Gaub

Peter Wirth is a local Syracuse resident who is retrofitting his house to reduce save energy and lower his family’s carbon footprint. He is trying to achieve net zero, the point at which the energy consumed equals the renewable energy created. By retrofitting his house, Peter has lowered his consumption of electricity, natural gas, and water. He said he took on the project because he felt as if he should “walk the talk.”

“If I’m going to talk about climate change,” Wirth said, “I should try and do with my own house, which is under my control, as much as possible.”
