Salon Amare

Sustainable Beauty Makes its Way to Syracuse

By Caroline Bartholomew

With all of the buzz today promoting eco-friendly lifestyles, one area has been overlooked until recently: hair care. In the last two years, sustainable salons have started spreading around the world and and in January, Harper’s Bazaar posed the question: “Is 2018 the year of the sustainable salon?” Now, eco-friendly salons can be found in almost every big North American city, according to Scientific American.

In January, Anne Marie Mesiti opened Salon Amare on South Warren Street in downtown Syracuse. After working as a stylist for 20 years, Mesiti wanted to open her own salon using products from the eco-friendly company Davines. Mesiti also works as an educator for Davines, teaching others about the company’s mission to respect the environment and how to best use the products.
